Our company
1st Buckie Boys’ Brigade is a thriving and traditional Boys' Brigade company based in Buckie, a charming fishing town on the Moray Firth Coast in the UK. We are one of the largest companies in the UK, boasting a dedicated group of over **220 officers and boys**. We are proudly affiliated with the Buckie South and West Church, fostering a strong sense of community and shared values. Our commitment is to providing a supportive and engaging environment for young people to learn, grow, and develop leadership skills.
Anchor boys (youngest section)
Our Anchor Boys, the youngest members, meet on Monday evenings in the Church Hall. The focus is firmly on fun! Activities include crafts, energetic games, badge work, and practicing singing for the annual enrolment parade and inspection. This section provides a fantastic introduction to the Boys’ Brigade, building friendships and essential social skills in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We aim to create lasting memories and a positive start to their BB journey.
Junior section
The Junior Section meets on Friday evenings, currently with over **40 boys** participating. The programme is varied and exciting, encompassing figure marching, engaging games, and badge work. All boys work towards earning their **Gold Achievement** badge, a significant milestone awarded at the end of Primary 6 after three years in the juniors. This achievement recognizes their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the Boys’ Brigade principles.
Company section
Our Company Section, with over **100 young men**, meets on Friday evenings at the local community high school. The program includes drill, physical education (P.E.), and a selection of badge work classes. For many, the ultimate goal is achieving the prestigious **Queen's Badge**. This badge is awarded to boys demonstrating exceptional attendance, discipline, and commitment to badge work, as well as fulfilling associated responsibilities. It represents a significant accomplishment and a testament to their dedication.
Bands and gymnastics
Tuesday evenings are dedicated to our **bugle band** and **gymnastic team** practices. The bugle band is a vibrant group of over **30 members** and recently received sponsorship for new instruments, bugles, and drums. The gymnastic team trains rigorously throughout the winter months to prepare their display item for the annual display in March. Both groups represent the company with pride and dedication.
Battalion involvement and competitions
1st Buckie Boys’ Brigade is an active member of the **Banffshire battalion**, participating fully in all battalion events, including swimming galas, “top of the form” competitions, cross-country events, **5-aside football**, badminton, and the Annual Battalion Parade. Our teams have achieved considerable success in national 5-aside football competitions, being runners-up in the junior competition in 2012 and 2015, and Scottish champions in the senior competition for the last two years. Both age groups represented Scotland in the UK finals last year, finishing as runners-up.
