Former 'love is blind' groom sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder

Santiago Martínez, a contestant from the Argentine version of Netflix's 'Love Is Blind', has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to murder his ex-wife Emily Ceco.

The couple met and married on the show before calling off their re-marriage plans

Martínez was found guilty of attempted murder, repeated assault, and unlawful detention. Ceco, who reported him for gender-based violence after he gave her a black eye, testified her 'whole body was shaking' facing her abuser in court.

'I was terrified,' Ceco said, recounting Martínez's statement where he apologised, saying he still loved her. 'During his statement, he apologized and said he still loved me.' She added that she now has '15 years of peace ahead' but worries about what might happen when Martínez is released.

Martínez denied attempting to kill Ceco, claiming the injuries were minor and she was never in danger of death. He posted on Instagram during the trial, stating he 'does not justify violence in any way' but insisted he never exercised control over Ceco.
