Tony awards 2026: the winners and standouts

The 79th Tony Awards honored the best of Broadway's 2025-2026 season, with wins across musicals and plays. Schmigadoon! took home the trophy for Best Musical, while Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman claimed Best Revival of a Play.

Top musical honors

Schmigadoon!'s Cinco Paul earned the award for Best Book of a Musical, while his score-sharing credit with the composer garnered Best Original Score. The production's lush orchestrations, courtesy of Doug Besterman and Mike Morris, also scored a win.

Play pride

On the dramatic side, Death of a Salesman dominated with Mikaal Sulaiman snagging Best Sound Design of a Play and Nicholas Hytner taking the director's chair for Best Direction. The revival's strong performances also earned nods for Christopher Abbott and Laurie Metcalf in the acting categories.

Other notable wins

In the acting realm, Sara Chase shone as the lead in Schmigadoon!, while Rose Byrne and Carrie Coon received nominations for their work in Fallen Angels and Bug, respectively. The Lost Boys, with music & lyrics by The Rescues, won Best Original Score for a Musical.
