Kaitlin armstrong sentenced to 90 years for murdering moriah wilson

Kaitlin Armstrong, the yoga instructor who killed rising American cycling star Moriah Wilson in a jealous rage, has been sentenced to 90 years in prison.

Armstrong's international manhunt and dramatic capture

Armstrong fled the US after the 2022 murder, sparking a 43-day global manhunt. She was eventually found in Costa Rica, where she had undergone plastic surgery to alter her appearance and used false identities to evade capture.

In her trial, prosecutors argued Armstrong tracked Wilson's movements and confronted and shot her out of jealousy over a love triangle with Wilson and her former boyfriend, professional cyclist Colin Strickland.

A jury finds armstrong guilty of first-degree murder

In November 2023, a Texas jury delivered a guilty verdict, convicting Armstrong of first-degree murder. The sentence of 90 years was handed down, with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

Armstrong's attempts to challenge the conviction have so far been unsuccessful, with appeals courts upholding both her guilty verdict and lengthy sentence.

A wrongful death lawsuit and preserving wilson's legacy

Meanwhile, Wilson's parents were awarded a $15 million wrongful death settlement against Armstrong in 2024, aimed at preventing the convicted killer from profiting from the crime.

As Armstrong serves her time at the Dr Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville, Texas, renewed attention on the case via Netflix's 'The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson' documentary is expected to keep the story in the public eye. However, for Wilson's family, the focus remains on celebrating her life and achievements rather than the woman convicted of her murder.
