Tibetan mastiff steals hearts at agricultural show

A striking Tibetan Mastiff named Uran has become an instant sensation at the Salon de l'Agriculture in Paris. The impressive dog, hailing from the Mayenne region, has captivated onlookers with his imposing stature and surprisingly gentle demeanor.

A champion's journey

Owned by Johan Hubert and his mother Ginette, Uran is no stranger to the show ring. Their meticulously decorated display cabinet is a testament to years of success, culminating in Uran's victory at the 2025 National Breed Show, granting them entry to the prestigious Concours général agricole.

The Salon de l'Agriculture, which opened February 21, 2026, hosts hundreds of animals and breeders from across France. The Mayenne region is well-represented, showcasing breeds like Bleu de Maine sheep and Percheron horses alongside canine companions like Uran.

Judging the best of the breed

At the agricultural show, dogs are evaluated against a strict breed standard. Judges scrutinize morphology, proportions, gait, and temperament – qualities particularly important for Tibetan Mastiffs, where size, bone structure, and expression are paramount. Uran competed against other mastiff breeds, showcasing a quiet confidence that belied his considerable size.

Hubert emphasizes that preparation involves careful grooming and a light dusting with a pulse cleaner, eschewing chemical enhancements.
